Cryoballoon pulmonary vein ablation is a safe and effective treament for the management of atrial fibrillation.
The pulmonary veins drain into the left atrium at the back of the heart. Electrical signals from the vein may trigger episodes of atrial fibrillation.
The inflatable balloon uses extreme cold to ‘freeze’ around the pulmonary veins preventing electrial signals from the vein escpaing into the atrium.
Cryoballoon ablation is a minimally invasive operation. In most cases the patient will be discharged from hospital the day after the procedure.
Dr Ridley and Dr Perrin perform Cryoballoon Ablation at St John of God Hospital in Geelong.
